We moved to New Smyrna Beach after our college years in 1995, Jennifer with a B.A. in Literature from University of Florida and Christian with a degree in Photography. After working the old regular job scene Jennifer began a career as an artist. In 1996 she worked as an apprentice for a local potter in New Smyrna Beach, FL., who educated her in the art of functional pottery. In 1998 we opened a studio in our home and our personal style began to emerge. We now show our pottery in many fine art shows and about 100 galleries in the country. We have won awards for our work at many shows, too many to name. In 2002 we started attending the Buyers Market of American Craft to grow our wholesale business, then in 2005 we decided to try our own hand at running a craft gallery here in New Smyrna Beach in the downtown historic district on Canal Street. We carry over 40 American Artisans.
Our work is a collaborative effort in that we share ideas with one another to create and better our work as a whole, not just steps in the process of making pots. We are artists in the sense that we constantly try to find solutions to actualize our ideas creatively through art whether it is photography, painting, making paper, silver-smithing, or beadwork and stone carving. Pottery for us has become a way of life, we live cheaply and work hard in hopes that we may make pots that will transform quietly the quality of life of the people who use them. As Rick Malmgren, a fellow potter said, “Life as a potter is a way of expressing gentleness towards those around me, and realizing a greater freedom and potential in my life.” We truly hope you enjoy our pots as much as we love making them.
